The choice for this site looking like it was straight out of the 90's is because of the main programmer for this site, kodealt, wanted to fulfill his wishes for making this site look like that. It can also be said to minimize the ram usage of the site, but noone is really going to buy that. This took a while to come up with sources and design ideas, all of which he himself did, and yet does not look like the best site (sorry). There is an option to make it to the more modern and simplistic design you would expect out of a programming guide website.
No ads as we are actual humans that know that ads are the worst thing in the world to exist, and the fact that this site is purely for non-profit. We are running this site out of our money, and donations are accepted to help us maintain this site (we are highschoolers, after all).
as said before, this site was made to look like the 90's. This is the default look, and can be changed. There are very little sites that still preserve the minimal css2.0 look of the 90's and have gravitated to minimalist design choices — don't get wrong, they look good, but everything just looks copy-paste and lacks any originality. Not to mention the ram usage. for example:
These are all websites that are used commonly. As you can see, they take up alot of ram. This is mostly due to the amount of media that they have (videos, imags, audio), but also due to the heavy styling and javascript usage. This site takes pride in using minimal ram (around 50mb), as is the lowest we can go (blank page is already 20mb, and adding just one pure black 720p image brings it to 24mb)
